Opioids / Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Services Provided
Patients will be approved for MAT based on recommendations from their chemical dependency evaluation and approval from our MAT prescribing physician. Each client will receive: Mental Health Assessment, Assessment and screening for medication readiness, Eating Behavior Assessment, Baseline and Random Drug Screening, Group/Individual Counseling Sessions, Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Management.
MAT For Opiate Use Disorder
For someone struggling with opiate dependence (heroin or other narcotic painkillers including codeine, oxycodone and hydrocodone), medications can be prescribed to reduce physical and psychological cravings.
The following medications are approved by the FDA for the management of opiate dependency for the prevention of relapse to opioid use:
- Buprenorphine (Suboxone) belongs to a class of drugs called opioid partial agonists, which help reduce physical and psychological craving for opiates in order for patients to benefit fully from treatment.
- Naltrexone (Depade, Revia, Vivitrol) can be taken orally daily or by monthly injection and prevents an addicted individual from feeling the effects of opiates as well as works to minimize cravings.
Research shows better outcomes with the use of MAT than without it. It significantly decreases the risk of relapse, it is effective in preventing infectious diseases such as HIV and has proven to be effective in preventing overdoses.
Our Offerings
MAT For Alcohol Use Disorder
If you are dependent on alcohol or have stopped drinking but continue to experience cravings or relapse, you can benefit from medication. The following medications are approved by the FDA for the management of alcohol dependency or the prevention of relapse to alcohol use:
- Naltrexone (Depade, Revia, Vivitrol) can be taken orally daily or by monthly injection and prevents an addicted individual from feeling the effects of opiates as well as works to minimize cravings.
- Acamprosate Calcium (Campral) is for the maintenance of abstinence from alcohol in patients dependent on alcohol but who are abstinent at the onset of treatment.
- Disulfiram (Antabuse) is an aid for patients who want to remain in a state of enforced sobriety so that supportive and psychotherapeutic treatment may be utilized.
These medications are prescribed as part of a comprehensive treatment approach that includes counseling with our addiction specialists. Psychosocial therapies proven effective in maintaining abstinence, are provided and participation in social supports including Alcoholics Anonymous or other mutual help programs are encouraged.
