DIGNITY: A program dedicated to recovery and sobriety for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities

Realization Center is one of the first outpatient programs in New York City dedicated to enhancing the lives and serving the needs of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer communities. Established in 1984, we are proud to have been the first treatment program in the tri-state area to respond to the needs of this community. Realization Center has created and maintains an atmosphere of safety and comfort so necessary to anyone who is troubled and seeks assistance. Our mission is to reach out with a loving, empowering set of solutions. A 12-Step philosophy is an integral part of the clinical program while group therapy, individual counseling, chemical dependency education and partner involvement constitute the psychodynamic core of the Center’s approach.

Services Provided

The Dignity program is unique and tailored to meet the needs of the LGBTQ community. The Program offers on-site information and assessment, group, couples, and individual counseling for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender, queer persons and their partners experiencing difficulty with the following:

  • Alcohol and other drug use
  • Adult Children of Alcoholics
  • AIDS / HIV positive issues
  • Compulsive sexual behaviors
  • Sexuality issues
  • Relationship issues for addict and the co-addict
  • Medication Management
  • Incest / Child Abuse
  • PTSD
  • Food Addiction / Eating disorders
  • Couples conflict resolution / Intimacy issues
  • Sexual Identity and crossover issues
  • Crisis Interventions
  • Psychiatric Evaluations

At Realization Center we believe in you until you begin to believe in yourself.

We specialize in health issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, sexual trauma and, as necessary, family of origin issues, domestic violence, anger/stress management, school or job difficulties, co-dependency, family conflict, parenting difficulties. We can also help with DWI and court mandated substance use issues.

Our Program

The Dignity program is staffed by LCSW’s, LMHC’s CASAC’s and MDs who are experts in the fields of addiction treatment, mental health and sexuality. All are trained to provide gay-affirming, compassionate and comprehensive care. This program is created to affirm the DIGNITY of recovering LGBT addicts and their partners, families and community members. In addition to an individual structured drug and alcohol program, Realization Center provides a safe and secure environment to address such issues as:
